Find the resources our cruise line has put in place to support awaiting crew, financially, psychologically, and professionally.
While we wait to return to our jobs at sea, Royal Caribbean has put in place a couple of financial resources along with mental health support channels for crew to access.
RCL Cares Program
"Through RCL CARES, we will provide financial assistance to team members — ship and shore — who have been affected by our temporary workforce changes. Those who, due to COVID-19, have suffered a death or hospitalization or are in immediate risk of losing their home can apply for help. We have expedited the approval process and will ensure they receive financial assistance quickly.
This aid is in addition to our Employee Assistance Program, which provides free and confidential counseling services to support financial, legal, relationship, stress, anxiety and emotional well-being. The Employee Assistance Program is available 24/7 in local languages via phone, email and webchat to all employees, crew and their families worldwide."
Mental Health
Newsletter Support
For some this might not be a major game-changer but Royal has taken the time to continue posting a bi-weekly newsletter specifically aimed for crew on land and it always includes words of encouragement and positive quotes and ideas for us to get inspired with, the section always includes tips for dealing with stress or similar struggles. Plus they always make sure to include crew members happy moments on land like marriages and births, a nice touch to remind us that some good things are still happening.
Employee Assistance Program
• Take advantage of the Employee Assistance Program(EAP). The EAP provides free and confidential counseling for you and your family. The program is available 24/7 in local languages through phone, email, and webchat to all crew and their families worldwide.
They have been insisting we make use of this service if we need it, plus click here to go to the wellness section of MyRCL portal where you can find different videos and texts to help you overcome obstacles in different areas.
It's ok to look for work on land temporarily
One of the greatest things I've seen in recent newsletters, in my opinion, was this very overlooked message that I think more than one need to see to feel a bit more relieved.
• Keep putting your loved ones first. We know this situation affects you and your loved ones financially. For those thinking about taking a temporary job, we support your decision. Looking for work elsewhere until we are ready to offer you a contract will not affect your chance to work with us again. We look forward to welcoming you back.
Financial Support
For those who were stranded at sea during the no-sail order, up to $400 dollars a month where allocated to us until the possibility to travel home. Let's look at other programs for those at home.
Retirement Plans
In recent time many have chosen to put an end to their career at sea. Royal said this about that topic:
Employee Funds
At this time this program has already been terminated, but they did hand out financial aid for those affected by the virus directly. Something around $2,500 for the loss of a direct relative, $1000 for hospitalization due to Covid-19 and $500 for the loss of housing caused by unemployment. Aplicants needed to submit supported documentation for their claim to be approved.
Medical Benefits
In the Crew Medical section of the Crew Travel website you can find support regarding health issues, commonly we are not covered for medical costs while on vacation but you can find contact information in that webpage along with several health tips and resources.
Hoping everyone stays safe, healthy and happy in these times!
